Wither Thou Goest

WITHER THOU GOEST
So many new releases, such a beautiful of year of music so far for me. Old and new, it never seems to quit.

WITHER THOU GOEST - WOODEN WAND
Wooden Wand is back and sounds better than ever. After a few albums I couldn't quite get into, he sounds as fresh as the Witness Figg days and all the better for it. The closest our generation will have to Fay, Pomerance, or Sill.

CLINGING TO A SCHEME - THE RADIO DEPT
This is the last album I can remember that gets better the more I hear it. Still hazy, still dreamy, but full of post-rave that hints at what sounds like the ruins of Pompeii washed up on the shores of Ibiza.

RHIZOMES - EFFI BRIEST
The long-lost Brontë sister by way of Fassbinder. More terrifying, more discreet, and a pale grey pink compared to the black blood of their comrades in Telepathe. One of the most rewarding albums I've heard in some time- the fact that its on the same label as the time-stopping Zola Jesus album of a few months back only gives me more hope for the future of things.

DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M HERE? - EMERALDS
Mego has finally evolved and is now welcoming people like Emeralds and Oneohtrix Point Never into the fold. The early days of Mego were so inspiring and so different to everything else around it (Pulsinger, Pita, Potuznik), in a very similar way that Emeralds and OPN were on arrival. Emeralds has become so good at what they do, this album is so smooth and so beautifully composed- nothing short of breathtaking. Tangerine what?

KELIS WAS HERE - KELIS
Lately Kelis is my hero. With one of the all-time great voices and a toughness that just won't quit. Keep on Kelis, your time will come.

DIG ME OUT
- SLEATER-KINNEY
I often forget how much I used to love this album. Come for the riot-grrrl, no bass, Corin's voice and all the other stuff.. but stay for the love songs. Few have ever sounded so earnest, so true, and so beautiful.

LOVE AND ITS OPPOSITE - TRACEY THORN
The human voice as an old friend. Always welcome and no matter how much everything around it can change, so many things will always remain the same.
